Four Ways Men Benefit from Plastic Surgery
Posted on October 1, 2019 by Dr. Carlos Chacon - Male Plastic Surgery
The conversation surrounding plastic surgery has been changing in recent years, as more men are discovering the benefits of cosmetic treatments. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 1.3 million cosmetic procedures were performed on men in 2018, a 29 percent increase since 2000.
Here, Dr. Carlos Chacon of Divino Plastic Surgery discusses four ways men benefit from plastic surgery.
Turning Back the Clock with “Brotox”
Almost half a million Botox procedures were performed on men in 2018. The Botox trend among men has become so popular that it has been dubbed “Brotox” in pop culture. Like women, men want to look younger. Botox is a great way to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles without surgery, which involves more risks and downtime. Treatment with Botox can be conveniently completed in a lunchtime appointment, and results become apparent soon after.
Shedding the “Dad Bod”
The effects of fatherhood are apparent on men who sport the “dad bod,” a pop culture term used to describe a pudgy or rounded physique. Dr. Chacon offers several body contouring procedures to help men tone and trim their physique. These include liposuction to eliminate surplus fat that cannot be treated with diet and exercise, and tummy tuck to sculpt the abdomen. Liposuction and tummy tuck are often performed as a combination procedure to produce more comprehensive results.
Eliminating “Man Boobs”
Gynecomastia, or enlarged male breast tissue, is a problem that affects about 40 to 60 percent of all men. So it shouldn’t be surprising that male breast reduction surgery is among the most popular plastic surgery procedures performed on men. Male breast reduction surgery eliminates excess glandular tissue and skin on the chest. Many patients report feeling a surge in confidence after surgery, as the chest looks more masculine, leaner and clothes fit better.
Addressing a Medical Concern
Not all plastic surgery procedures are performed for cosmetic reasons. For instance, rhinoplasty, also known as nose reshaping surgery, can correct breathing problems caused by structural deformities (e.g., deviated septum). Even certain body contouring procedures like male breast reduction surgery can be performed to alleviate physical discomfort caused by folds of skin that irritate or chafe the surrounding skin. It’s not uncommon for rhinoplasty and male breast reduction patients to report a boost in quality of life after surgery.
