Men and women undergo a myriad of body changes as they age and gain and lose weight. Many people work hard to shed extra pounds and reach their goal shape but struggle with the remnants of their larger size, such as loose skin and stretch marks. Your skin loses the ability to snap back due to age and may stretch beyond its capacity during times of weight gain. Women often struggle with these concerns after pregnancy. Tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, gets rid of excess tissue, some stretch marks and residual fat pockets.
Dr. Carlos Chacon at Divino Plastic Surgery is a talented plastic surgeon who uses his artistry and skill to improve the body contour of his patients and enhance their self-confidence. He will evaluate your troublesome areas and develop a surgical approach to meet your cosmetic goals.
How a Tummy Tuck Works
Abdominoplasty starts with anesthesia and an incision along the lower abdomen just above the pubic hairline, where it can be concealed with underwear and swimwear. Full tummy tuck requires this incision to extend from hip to hip and a second incision around the belly button (navel). Mini tummy tuck involves a single, shorter incision above the pubic area because it only focuses on the lower abdomen.
Dr. Chacon lifts the abdominal skin to reveal the weakened structures underneath. Abdominal muscles tend to stretch with pregnancy or weight gain, and diet and exercise can’t improve the separation of these muscles (diastasis recti). Our plastic surgeon strengthens the abdominal muscles and nearby tissues to provide a flatter body contour.
The upper abdominal skin is pulled down like the blinds of a window, and excess skin tissue is trimmed away. A new opening for the belly button is formed, and the navel is sutured into position. Dr. Chacon may use sutures, skin adhesives, clips or tapes to close incisions.
The skin removed during the tummy tuck procedure comes from the lower abdomen, and stretch marks in this region are eliminated with the loose tissue. Upper abdominal stretch marks will move to the lower stomach, where they may not be as noticeable. Dr. Chacon prefers to remove excess fat deposits with liposuction during tummy tucks to eliminate stubborn fat and provide a slimmer, tighter body shape.
