How Do I Know If I Should Get Implants With My Breast Lift?

Posted on January 21, 2015 by - Breast Implants, Breast Lift

Do I Need Breast Implants, Breast Lift or Both?At Divino Plastic Surgery, many of our patients who are pursuing cosmetic breast surgery wonder whether they should get breast implants with their breast lift procedures. Dr. Carlos Chacon explores the answer.

What Is Accomplished With Breast Lift

Over time, pregnancy and breastfeeding, major weight loss or the natural aging process can cause the skin to lose its elasticity and start to sag. Unfortunately, breast skin is not immune to this development. Lax, stretched-out skin can lead to sagging breasts, overly enlarged areolas (the darker-colored skin around the nipples) and nipples that have migrated down the front of the breast and point toward the floor instead of straight ahead.

Fortunately, undergoing breast lift surgery with Dr. Chacon is an effective way to address these aesthetic concerns. With breast lift surgery, Dr. Chacon removes excess skin from the breasts. He then re-shapes the natural breast tissue mound, meanwhile moving it to a higher, more aesthetically pleasing position on the chest wall. He also moves the nipple to a higher, more central location on the breast, if needed. (In doing so, he keeps the nipple attached to the underlying tissue to help preserve nipple sensation and the ability to breastfeed following surgery.) During the procedure, Dr. Chacon can also excise extra skin from the outer circumference of the areolas, to reduce their size, if necessary. The result is lifted, well-proportioned breasts that look more youthful.

When Breast Implants Should Be Included

Breast lift surgery is designed for patients who are happy with the size of their breasts but are frustrated with breast ptosis (sagginess). If you are concerned with both the drooping position of your breasts and a lack of breast volume or fullness, you might benefit from combination breast lift and augmentation.

During combination breast lift and augmentation surgery, Dr. Chacon first raises the breasts to a higher position on the chest wall before inserting breast implants. He can use the same incisions to perform both phases of the operation. With this combination procedure, patients achieve lifted, more youthful-looking breasts as well as more voluminous breasts, with a greater degree of cleavage.

Determine Whether You Are a Candidate

If you are still not sure whether you need breast lift surgery, breast augmentation surgery with implants or both, don’t worry; Dr. Chacon can help. During consultation, Dr. Chacon evaluates your breast anatomy, including your skin health, and listens to your aesthetic goals for surgery before recommending the treatment option that will best help you accomplish your surgical goals.
