San Diego Breast Augmentation: Deciding on Your Implant Size

Posted on November 22, 2013 by - Breast Implants, Breast Surgery

Large breast implants may work for certain people, but here at our San Diego plastic surgery office, we know that many women are looking for more natural looking results.  This is why we believe a breast augmentation procedure should be geared towards enhancing the natural contours of a woman, while achieving the looks she wants. Dr. Chacon will spend time discussing your San Diego breast augmentation goals, such as carefully deciding on your implant size.

No One-Size-Fits-All

When it comes to breast implants, there is no one-size-fits-all. Implants come in various sizes and it is best to talk with Dr. Chacon to figure out which size will fit you well. During the consultation, you will also have the chance to try on different sizes which will give you an idea as to how your breasts will appear following surgery.

By and large, your choice of implant size will be influenced by the following factors:

1. Your body measurements. Dr. Chacon and his team will measure how broad your bosom is, the distance between your breasts, and the base width of your breasts. Body shape and size will also be assessed including the width and height of your shoulders.

2. Your skin laxity. You should have enough skin tissue to cover the implants. If you don’t have enough skin tissue, the implants may show through your skin. Special techniques exist to help in this situation.

3. The current position of your nipples and breast symmetry.

4. Your lifestyle. If you’re the type who regularly engages in moderate to heavy physical activity such as sports and exercise, overly large implants may cause you discomfort.
