San Diego Laser Tattoo Removal – Rethink the Ink!
Posted on September 1, 2013 by Dr. Carlos Chacon - Laser Tattoo Removal, Laser Therapies
Is there such a thing as tattoo regret? The results of a recent study released in the 2012 British Association of Dermatologists’ Annual Conference in Birmingham, seem to suggests that tattoo regret does exist. This finding should not come as a surprise, as more people are actually seeking the services of cosmetic surgeons specializing in laser tattoo removal, such as Dr. Carlos Chacon’s advanced laser therapies in San Diego.
More Than Just a Myth
The aforementioned study made use of a questionnaire which interviewed patients age 16 years and older for approximately 6 months. The questions asked in the questionnaire covered the following:
-
the age they acquired the tattoo
-
for how long they had the tattoo
-
whether it was done by an amateur or professional
-
whether they had other tattoos before
-
the site of their tattoo
-
whether they still like their tattoo or whether they want it removed if given the opportunity
The results of the study, analyzing 580 responses from a total of 615 respondents (53 percent of them were men and 47 percent were women) revealed the following results:
-
45 percent of the patients had their first tattoo done between 18 and 25 years old
-
Half of the respondents were over 40 years old
-
Majority of the respondents had their tattoos done by a professional
-
Half of the respondents had 2 to 5 tattoos in their lifetimes
-
A third of the respondents regretted their tattoo, with men more likely to regret than women
-
Men who had their tattoos done when they were 16 years old and below are 3 times more likely to have tattoo regrets
-
Women who had their tattoos done when they were 21 years and older were less likely to have tattoo regrets
-
Approximately less than half of those who had tattoo regrets would want to have their tattoos removed
The aforementioned findings are a solid proof that “tattoo regret” is more than just a myth and it happens. Take actor Johnny Depp for example. He decided to have “Winona Forever” inked into his arm when he was dating actress Winona Ryder. However, they apparently broke up, and he ended up altering the tattoo into “Wino Forever”.
Employment Issues
The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery revealed that laser tattoo removal procedures increased to 43 percent in 2012 in comparison to 2011. A significant factor for such increase is how certain employers tend to avoid candidates with visible tattoos thus more people are opting to have their tattoos removed.
