When Is It Time to Switch from Injectables to Surgery?

Cosmetic injectables like Botox, Juvederm and Sculptra are typically the first line of defense against noticeable signs of aging. These are popular and common anti-aging treatments at Divino Plastic Surgery. However, at some point in many peoples’ lives, injectables no longer offer the same benefits and results, and facial rejuvenation surgery looks like a more appealing option.
In this post, Dr. Carlos Chacon describes some indications it might be time to switch from injectables to surgery.
You’re In Your Late 40s, 50s or 60s
Injectable treatments are popular among younger patients — those in their late 20s, 30s and early 40s. Generally, the transition from injectables to surgery tends to happen around the late 40s to 50s when more noticeable signs of aging crop up — although this depends on the speed at which someone ages, and other factors.
Maintaining Results Is Challenging
Injectables deliver quick results, but the effects last temporarily. Depending on the specific product, the results can last four months up to a year, at which point repeat treatment is needed to maintain the effects.
If you find it challenging to fit these maintenance appointments into your schedule, or you don’t like the repetitive costs for treatment, facial surgery may be a better option. The one-time surgery requires a recovery period and a higher up-front cost, but there are no follow-up treatments or costs.
Your Aging Concerns Are More Complex
Injectables are great for restoring loss of facial volume and minimizing fine lines and facial creases. However, they won’t address loose or sagging skin or tissues, which give the face an older appearance.
Facial rejuvenation surgery is the only way to reduce excess skin and tissue for more youthful facial contours. Surgery can also address age-related changes to the fat and muscle of the face. For example, facelift surgery works on the deep layers of muscle and tissue for noticeable, long-lasting results.
Choosing the Right Surgeon Is Key
Well-performed facial surgery has the ability to turn back the clock about 7 to 10 years, but it must be performed by a qualified surgeon. Dr. Chacon has the training, experience and skills to produce beautiful and natural looking results.
